Why a pick made of horn?
Horn guitar picks are very similar in their properties to the legendary tortoiseshell picks. Tortoiseshell was obtained from the shells of sea turtles, but is now banned for conservation reasons. Therefore, we use the horn of African cattle for our picks. Its structure is almost identical to tortoiseshell – it consists primarily of keratin. This allows us to offer you picks of the same high quality as classic tortoiseshell picks. Humans have used horn since ancient times. In our modern age, where sustainability is becoming increasingly important, horn products are experiencing a well-deserved comeback. Horn not only looks very elegant but is also a purely natural product. So it's no problem if you need a larger quantity of picks. No waste, just a traditionally handcrafted product with a unique grain – many reasons to choose horn guitar picks.

Each Thohr Horn pick is hand-ground to a consistently uniform, selectable thickness with rounded edges and then polished to a high gloss. Despite its glossy surface, a Thohr Horn pick, due to its organic composition and exquisite craftsmanship, grips exceptionally well between the fingers. In our family business, horn picks are still handcrafted using traditional methods. We use the horn of African cattle. This horn is a byproduct of cattle farming and is therefore of great value to us because it possesses precisely the right properties for processing. The horns of German cattle, for example, would be too small to work with. Not every horn is suitable in terms of structure; it must be carefully selected. Each horn pick is hand-ground to a consistent thickness and given its rounded edges. The pick is then polished to a high gloss. This gives it a glossy surface, while its organic composition ensures excellent grip between the fingers. The Thohr Classic Horn Pick is ready to play immediately.
